Assistant editor of the "Spirit" and a friend of the Chief of Police and Mayor. Candlemas Day is a religious holiday brought to Germany by the Romans. On one of the "boys night out" for Clymer and friends they were feeling in good spirits and decided
to skin a groundhog and cook it. This was in Gobbler's Knob so named because there were as many or more wild turkeys than groundhogs there. Clymer talked his boss, Pierre Smith, into publicizing the Candlemas celebration in Punxsutawney as The
Groundhog Day. Clymer named the groundhog "Phil" after his brother Philip Odessus.
