[93227] In The Lewis Family by J. B. Nearhoof, he writes, "Joseph Lewis' father was an old time school teacher. He lived in Bald Eagle Valley and moved to Indiana Co." He named Joseph's father as Robert, which we know to be incorrect and there is no evidence
that he moved to Indiana County. Possibly David's son, Robert, was the schoolteacher. (He appeared on the tax list in Huntingdon County only three years, 1823-25.) David first turns up in the tax list of Franklin Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA in 1790 with his
father, Evan, and brothers Samuel and John. He has 2 horses and 2 cows in 1790 and 1791. In 1794 and 1795 he has 100 acres land and 1 horse and 2 cows. In 1796 and 1797, he has 100 acres and 3 cows. In 1798 Warrior's Mark Twp. is formed from Franklin
Twp. David is not on that list in 1798 or 1799 but turns up in 1800-05 with no land and 2 cows. In 1806 he has a horse and 3 cows and in 1807 he has only a horse. 1808-13 he has 1 horse and 2 cows. He doesn't appear on the tax list again until 1817-21
when he has 75 acres. In 1822 he has 75 acres and a cow. In 1823-24 he has 60 acres and 1 cow. In 1825 his name is crossed off and does not appear through 1850. His 60 acres is listed in son Joseph's name. No widow is listed. He would have been 60-65
years old at this time and may have died.

Walter D. Lewis' manuscript written in 1930 describes David Lewis, " ... lived some time at Water St, PA, then lived halfway up on the trail over Bald Eagle Mtn. a few miles east of Tyrone, PA. Here was a spring and he built a log cabin and reared his
family and must have provided for them mostly by hunting and fishing."
