In 1760 an Evan Lewis sold land in Cumberland County, Deed Book 2A-2B, p. 107, "know all... that I Evan Lewis formerly of the Path or Falk??? Valley Cumberland County Pennsylvania .. sell .. sold and delivered ... John Blair Cooper of the same Place
County and Providence ... right and title of the Plantation whereon I formerly lived with all the improvements thereon any by these present do make over and deliver unto the said John Blair his heirs & assigns the whole as above for and in
consideration of thirty two pounds ten shillings.. Money of Pennsylvania to me in hand paid in consideration of the said payment whereof acknowledge the receipt I have made over and delivered the said place ...[signed] Evan Lewis Teste Andrew Spear and
John Wallace... the above plantation is bound by the south by Samuel Patterson on the Northwest by William Wallace on the North East by John Mc(?) Garff. Recorded 12 Jany 1761" It is unknown at this time if this is our Evan Lewis. In 1776 there is an
Evan Lewis on the tax list of Antrim Twp, Cumberland Co, PA (Franklin Co was not formed until 1784 from Cumberland). He has 74 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1779-1782 there is an Evan Lewis on the Antrim Twp Tax records (per PA Archives) with 100-180
acres land and a few horses and cattle. It is not proven that this is our Evan Lewis. In 1790, our Evan Lewis turns up in the tax records of Franklin Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA, which was formed in March 1789, from Tyrone Twp. (He was not in the Tyrone Twp
tax records for 1788-89.) In 1790 and 1791, he has 300 acres, 3 horses and 3 cows. In 1792, Evan Lewis was Overseer of the Poor. In 1793, he is on the tax list but no acreage or livestock is listed. In 1794, he has 200 acres 3 horses and 5 cows. (His
son David now has 100 acres as does son John.) In 1795, he has 150 acres, 3 horses and 6 cows. In 1796, he has 300 acres, 1 horse and 3 cows. In 1797, he has 200 acres, 2 horses and 2 cows and is again Overseer of the Poor. In 1798, he drops off the
list and appears on the Warrior's Mark Twp. list. (Warrior's Mark was formed in 1798 from Franklin Twp.) He has 300 acres, 1 horse and 3 cows. In 1799, he has 300 acres, 1 horse and 3 cows. And he was Supervisor of the Roads. In 1800 and 1801, no
acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. (Son Joshua pays taxes on 300 acres.) On 28 Nov 1801, Evan Lewis of Huntingdon County entered into an agreement with John P. McKnight... grant and convey a tract of land situate in Warrior mark Valler Warrior Mark Township
of 601 1/2 acres for 6 and 1/2 dollars and acre with 1/5th part due 1 May 1802, and the remaining 4/5ths due in yearly installments each 1 May. Evan Lewis paid $88.00 28 Nov 1801. On 15 May 1802, he paid $693.95 completed the first payment of $781.95.
This was recorded 9 Oct 1829. On 15 May 1802, Evan Lewis signed a mortgage for this property. (Huntingdon Co, PA, Deed Book H-1, p. 473.) In 1802, he has 300 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1803, he has 240 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1804, he has
240 acres, 2 horses and 2 cows. In 1805, he has 150 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1806, he has 150 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1807, Lewis, Widow has 150 acres and 1 horse. In 1808 through 1810, Lewis, Margaret (Widow) has 150 acres, 1 horse and 2
cows. In 1811, Lewis, Margaret (Widow) has 150 acres and 1 horse. In 1812, Lewis, Margaret (Widow) "name crossed off." She is not listed again.
