Philip was the 6th child of Henry Ermentraudt and wife Mary Magdaline Baeur. There is no record of his bapt., but as a youngman, he was a member of St. Phillip's (Old Ermentrout) Ch., north of Keezletown, VA, as five of his children born in Rockingham Co., VA were bapt there (BaptRec St Phillip's Ch [unpublished]). In 1805 he mar. Mary Magdalena Flook. (Rochingham Co., VA mar rec bk 2-191) When his father died without a will his father's land descended by law to Philip's olderst bro. George, (Rockingham Co VA land Rec BRBD 5-133, Deed 9) who later divided his inheritance with his youngerbros. Philip together with his bro Henry therefore became joint owners of a sizable acreage at the head of Smith's Creek north of the present-day city of Harrisonburg. On 19 Mar 1814, Philip and his wife Magdalena sold his share of thejointly owned farm (112 acres) to his bro Henry for $750 (Rockingham Co VA Land Red BRDB 0000-373) Philip after disposing of his land made preparations tomove his family to Ohio and some time in 1817 the family settled on a farm inKnox Co., Ohio where he spent the remaining years of his life. In 1850 this Ohio farm had an assessed value of $2,000. (Knox Co., Ohio 1850 US Census). MaryM died in 1842 and Philip in 1859. Both were buried in an old Armentrout Cemnear North Liberty, Ohio.
