Willie & Ida moved to Vick in about 1900 after Willie bought 100
acres of farm land there. Their they raised nine boys of which
seven reached adulthood. Willie also served as a Police Juror
for many years from Ward I. On July 14 1912, Willie Sayes was
riding horseback home from a Woodmen of the World meeting. He
rode with a lantern to light the way for other horseback riders,
including his son, Hannon. Near his home, Willie was shot. He
rode home and said to his wife, "Ida, I'm shot." He died soon
after due to a loss of blood. A coroner's inquest was held later
that day. No one knows who shot Willie.
