John, Sr. was b. and m. at Marshfield, Ma. and d. at Rochester, Ma. He
lived at Scituate in 1676 when his house and barn were burned by Indians.
He moved to Rochester, Ma. before 1685. He also resided at Marsfield Ma.
His children were b. at Scituate, Ma. He moved to Middleboro, Ma. from
Marshfield and then to Rochester and perhaps again to Middleboro, Ma.
John took the oath of fidelity at Marshfield, Ma. in 1657 and made
Freeman. His will was proven June 7, 1715. He was a farmer by occupation.

EDWARD HOWELL FAMILY ASSOCIATION:
The first mention of Edward appears in the Southampton records on 4 April1651 when he "drew for his vpland lott [one hundred pounds]." In 1654 hewas chosen one of three townsmen, and served on a jury in 1656. In1663-1664, Edward was Deputy to the General Court in Connecticut. 66
In November 1674, Jonah Fordham of Hempstead gave to his brother-in-lawEdward Howell a powers of attorney to settle family differences regardingthe estate of the late Reverend Robert Fordham. On 26 November1674agreement was reached between Mr. Joseph Fordham and his mother, Mrs.Elizabeth Fordham, and Mr. Jonah Fordham by his agent Lieutenant EdwardHowell and Edward Howell himself and his wife mary, and respecting Johnand Mrs. Hannah Clarke, daughter of Mr. Robert Fordham, deceased, for thesettlement of his estate. In September 1676, Edward with Joseph Raynor,John Jagger, Francis sayre and John Foster wrote a letter to the Governorof New York regarding the patent for Southampton and Southold, as"Constable and Overseers of this Towne." In January 1678/9 he and JohnJessup and 14 Indians formed a whaling group. In 1682, he, John Howell,Jr., Obadiah Rogers and Isaac halsey were appointed to lay out meadows.In 1682, John Tant of Southampton, blacksmith, sold to Mr. Edward Howell"all my Smith tools and iron bellosse," which must have been passed on tohis son Edward who is listed as a blacksmith in 1699 and 1713. He wasassessed at 400 pounds in the 1683 estimate. That same year he was chosencommissioner. At a town meeting on 2 April 1683, Edward Howell was chosenconstable, but refused to serve. He was treasurer for Suffolk County in1686. In 1694, he was assessor, and in 1697 surveyor of highways, withJosiah Topping. That year he and his wife mary exchanged land with JonahFordham. The 1698 census lists Mr. Edward, Samuel, Jonah, Edward Jr.,Benjamin, Thomas, Mary, Mary, Ireniah Rogers, between the households ofJohn Jessup and Joseph Foster. Edward Howell made his will on 4 August1697 which provided:
"my body to be decently buried by my father's sepulchres;" bequests ofland "my home lot" to eldest son Joseph; "all my close at Cobs pound" tosecond son Jonathan; "my little close at Mecox" to third son Samuel, landto fourth son Jonah; "my home lot in ye town" to fifth son Edward; landat Sagaponack to sixth son Benjamin; land at Mill Neck and Mecox toseventh son Thomas; bequests to daughters Mary Howell, Deborah Tappingand Phebe Halsey and grandchild Irenie Rogers; one third of moveableestate to wife Mary, with executrix wife Mary. 66
