"Amanda Jane Tygart was born Dec 27, 1842 in the state of Georgia; departed thislife November 23, 1928, 85 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
"Married SamuelNeil 14 October 1866; they had five children - Prior, Anna, James, Joe, and Fannie.
"She professed faith in Christ about the year 1867 and joined the Baptist Church at Pleasant Ridge and has been a faithful member ever since.
"Shewas just a girl in her teens at the outbreak of the Civil War. In order to avoid being drafted into the Confederate Army, her two older brothers, Mart(in) andJohn, were taken by her father to Springfield to join the Union Army. Her father never returned but died while in Springfield.** This left her with four little children to care for. At one time while she was weaving cloth for their clothing the rebel soldiers raided th house and carried off all the material with which she was weaving.
"She was a faithful and affectionate mother, not only to her own children, but to her brothers and sisters as well; a loving wife,a good neighbor, and best of all a Christian woman.
"At Sister Neil's request Joe came back from Oklahoma and stayed with her most of the last two years until her death.
"Funeral services conducted by Rev. T. H. Phillips 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 13, Pleasant Ridge Church, followed by burial in PleasantRidge Cemetery."
