His favorite poet was Robert Burns. He remembers his trip back east but is sad that he didn't really get to know some of the new family and the children. His youngest son had just joined him in trucking and he was thinking of moving "up north" for
better business. All of his children were married. He built Lazelle a cedar house for a block from his own. The economy has been moving up for the last 4 years but he still feels the pinch of the depression. he suspects spring will be in about 2
weeks. He recalls his astonishment at seeing roses blooming in the yards when he landed here on a steamer at christmas. Describes a 1222 mi trip he took to Los Angeles with a friend "duffer" in which they loaded 1000 christmas trees on a truck and
sight seed their way south. They were gone a month, trucking oranged back home, and made $50 each. He was very detailed and sometimes poetic: "for miles one could see that swell from the ocean breaking on the beach into a white spray giving one the
idea of a great white animal running away from us." Cora adds in a letter of her own: they remodeled the house recently. They have tenants in the downstairs and front rooms. mentions a national radio broadcast that Gwennie might like with choral
hyms.
