[52539] Buried at State Line Cemetery, Wayne Co. Indiana, Wife Sarah Shaffer Berry wasburied Broxon Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Whitly Co., Indiana.

State LineCemetery is in both Preble County Ohio and Wayne County Indiana

Family tradition says that the Berry's were from England, that they
attended Washington'sBall, and they sent their sons to England to school.

Research question. I have another Joseph Berry listing: Born 1772, died 1836, Buried at State Line Cemetery, Wayne Co., Indiana. This would
put him at the right age to be this Joseph Berry's father or uncle.

Joseph was first heard of when he did three stints of military service for the War of 1812: one for John Farlow, one for AdamZeck, and one for his future father-in-law, Daniel Shaffer. They were all living as early pioneers in Wayne County, Indiana.

In 1817, Joseph received land in Montgomery County, Ohio for the 1812 military service. It is thought thathe sold that land because he bought a large tract of land in Jackson Twp., Preble County, Ohio. In 1820 Joseph moved his family across the State Line from Indiana, to Preble County, Ohio.

They were among the first pioneers, and theyhad many struggles and trials, Again, he cleared and converted the land intoa farm. He donated some of the land for a school. The rest of their twelve children were born there in Jackson Twp, Preble County, Ohio on the farm. This is where he spent the remainder of his life, as he died in August 1860 and is buried in the State Line Cemetery with his three infant children and many other relatives.
