Notes for Zenon Aymond:
Zenon was baptized on November 18, 1825 by Father Martin of St.
Paul's Catholic Church. His godparents were Pierre Lami and
Zenon's sister, Celeste Aymond.
Zenon (A.K.A. "Zeno") served as an engineer in the Confederate
Army during the Civil War. He served for the entire War. As he
had 2 children during the War, and as he had no specific unit
designation, it is possible that Zenon served in building and
defending Fort De Russey in Avoyelles Parish or some other local
garrison. According to his widow's application for a
Confederate pension, Zenon contracted disentary during the War
and suffered with it until his death. Sometimes after Zenon's
death, his widow, Lucinda, moved in with her daughters, her son,
Ben, and their families (Mrs. B.B. Broussard and Mrs. M.L.
Broussard) in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana.
From the 1850 Census, Zenon was living alone and worked as a
"mechanic". According to Dr. Thomas Howell, Chairman of the
History Department at Louisiana College, a mechanic, at that
time, was one who went from plantation to plantation to work on
machinery, such as cotton gins and etc... Just before the Civil
War, Zenon and his family lived at the present site of Oak
Grove Methodist Church in Effie, Louisiana, which property he
sold for the founding of that church about 1859. According to
the 1870 Census, Zennon and some of his family (not all) were
farming in the Lamourie area of Rapides Parish, La. But by
1880, that Census shows that he was back in Ward 1 of Avoyelles
Parish. However, at the time of his son Ben's birth, in 1882,
and just before his death, Zenon apparently lived near
Plaucheville, La. (as Ben's obituary says he was born near
Plaucheville). Also residing with Zenon and his family in 1880
was a Solomon E. Aymond, relationship unknown. Solomon was born
in 1860
