As you know, Mary Boone Bryan returned to Kentucky with the family of her eldest son Samuel and lived out her years in their home on the Licking River in what is now Campbell County. Most needed goods and services could be had in Falmouth, but when business or shopping required a trip to Lexington, his mother often accompanied Samuel and others of the family. On these trips, the party always stopped at what remained of Bryan's Station. There, Mary would go alone to the gravesites of her husband and three sons which lay parallel to a long-vanished palisade wall of the forgotten fort. In due course she would return and the party would resume its journey.
I cannot locate the source of this story of Mary's visits to Bryan's
Station just now. It may well be apocryphal. But it's nice to
Contemplate.
Jack Bryan
