SMITH, born March 8, 1838; died at Minneapolis, Minn.,January 1, 1899; married in Novi, Mich., March 18, 1864, to EDWARD PORTERVAN VALKENBURGH, of White Lake, Mich.; son of Jacob and Mary Bethia(Higgins) Van Valkenburgh; born in Buffalo, N. Y., April 14, 1837;living, 1903, in Minneapolis, Minn.; he was a Capt. in the 107th N. Y.Vol. Inf., during the War of the Rebellion; after the war he moved toAustin, Minn.; a few years were spent at Lake Mills, Ia., where he was inthe lumber business, also in Tallapoosa, Ga.; he was at one time inpartnership with his brother-in-law, D. B. Smith, at Austin, Minn.
