[96463] Abner was taxed in the parish rateables on 28 May 1736 at Southampton.In a parcelling of land on 5 May 1737, reference was made to "the landof justice Josiah Howell where Abner Howell's smith shop stands."Benjamin Haines sold his home and three acre lot in Southampton toAbner Howell, blacksmith, on 25 Dec 1738. Abner sold a lot of meadowto David Fithian on 21 Dec 1742. And Abner Howell was allowed to "setup a wind mill in the street before his shop door" on 7 Apr 1752. Inhis will of 8 Mar 1752, Abner's father Josiah left: to my son, AbnerHowell, all that my upper close in Halseys Neck, and all that mynorthernmost close at 7 pounds, and 1/2 of my meadow at North Sea, andmy orchard at Long Springs, also 1/3 of my commonage east of CanoePlace; also all my lot lying between Canoe Place and Red Creek, on thenorth side of Quogue Path; also leave him my silver tankard and twentypounds, also all my coal, and my maundrel and my small vise and screwto breech guns with, and also all my right of land lying in the lotwith David Fithian and William Herricks in Pon Quogue Neck; also allmy piece of meadow lying at the bottom of Halseys Neck; also 1/3 of mycommonage west of Canoe Place. Abner sold his house and home lot thatwas his father's on 26 Aug 1752. Abner and Eunice Howell lived on thewest side of Main Street in Southampton. He registered his ear marksin 1757. Abner left a will dated 19 Dec 1774, in which he named his"beloved wife Eunice" and his sons Phineas and David. Executors of thewill were his wife and son David Howell. Abner is buried at NorthendBurying Ground in Southampton. Abner and Eunice had seven children.(Steve Norris)
