Descended from the Dorset Branch of the Gray family. The Dorset Grays are of great antiquitty, and were for many generations in high favor with the English Kings. Members of this family were for centuries seated in Westminister and other sections in
and about London. It appears John was not a native of Stapleford, only a resident of many years.

note that when they relocated to vermont, they settled in dorset
