Family record states:"The oldest record of the Moore family in our possession
is of Thomas D. Moore 1016. From him were descended the Earls of Caohel and
Drogheda. Drogheda is onthe Bay of Drogheda, Meath Co, Ireland. Caohel is in
Tipperary Co. Mt. Cashel is a rocky hill about 300 feet high of limestone
formation. On the top arethe ruins of a gothic cathedral, 12 century, a
castle, Abbey Chapel, and roundtower. Then there is a break in the record,
and we find my mother's great gradfather and grandmother in the county Antrium,
Parish of Clough or Clogh. Her great grandmother still living. Jane Moore,
and a son William Moore. The other children not mentioned. Then in 1682 Wm.
Moore and three others, same names, perhaps brothers, came to American with Wm
Penn in a ship named the "MayFlower". William Moore Settled in Slonington,
Conn. The other three are saidto have died. It is not stated whether they
were brothers. Wm Moore marriedMary Palmer, an English girl - no date. In
1729 he moved to Duchess County,NY and resided there till his death in 1765."
