Samuel STURTEVANT
[92760]
____ - ____
Family 1
: Ann LEE
is thought that he came to Plymouth as an indentured servant in
1639-1640. Recent unverified information indicates there may have been
another Sturtevant in the Plymouth area as early as 1623.
Samuel married a good woman and acquired considerable land. By 1660 he
owned at least 74 acres in North Plymouth. He most likely farmed and it
is known that he served the community in minor roles.
Samuel surely associated with the likes of Miles Standish, William
Bradford and other influential individuals of the area during his time.
He and his wife Ann (or Hanna) sired five sons and four daughters.
Ultimately several of his descendants linked with direct lineage to the
Mayflower including, Francis Cooke, Isaac Allerton and Stephen Hopkins.
Although he achieved no greatness, it is evident he was a most
industrious man of good moral character, whom helped greatly to stabilize
this famous colony.
