DAR Patriot Index shows 3 wives: 1) Marcey, 2) Eunice Howell, and 3)Phebe Howell Havens.
Stephen's marriages are rather vague. G.R. Howell has him marryingSusannah Cooper, who d. Mar. 11, 1711, age 22; this is incorrect, ifStephen is the son of "Money" David and grandson of Abraham of Sagg.That Stephen was b. Oct 23, 1744, and d. Jan. 18, 1828. I think theSusannah bur. at Flying Point, dying 1771, could be the wife ofStephen of New Haven, CT. In the old cem. at Sag Harbor we foundMarcey, wife of Stephen, b. 1749 and d. Dec. 5, 1793, bur. with aninfant who d. one day after the mother. If Marcey is the wife ofStephen, then she was his first wife and the mother of his ch. If thisis all correct, he then m. Eunice, dau. of Abner Howell, after 1793.She was b. Mar. 20, 1744; d. Oct. 15, 1799; d.s.p. (without issue). Wefound Stephen's will and in it he mentions my beloved wife, Phebe, andmentions 2 sons, Silas and Lewis. Eunice is bur. with Stephen and wefound no grave for Phebe, but in the Sag Harbor Pres. Church Recordsat East Hampton Library we found, Phebe, Stephen's widow, d. June 25,1831, aged 77 yrs. A birth date would be about 1754. If anyone has thehistory of this family, would be happy to have them correct this ifand where it is wrong. Have not been able to contact any member of thefamily. (Descendants of Edward Howell (1)...)
