SPARROW, RICHARD-Richard Sparrow was on the 1633 fieeman list. He served
in various public capacities, such as juryman, highway surveyor, and
constable for Plymouth (PCP, passim). On 24 June 1639 Mary Moorecock,
with the consent of her father-in-law (probably stepfather), apprenticed
herself to Richard Sparrow and his wife Pandora for nine years (PCR
1:128-9). On 2 October 1650, Thomas Shrive was presented for pilfering
corn from Richard Sparrow's barn, and Sparrow was presented for
concealing Shrive's crime (PCR 2:162). Sparrow moved to Easman, where he
was elected a deputy 6 April 1653 (PCR 3:24). In his will dated 19
November 1660, inventory 22 January 1660161, he named his wife Pandora,
son Jonathan, and grandchildren John Sparrow, Priscilla Sparrow, and
Rebecca Sparrow (MD 12:57). A more complete account is given in
Dawes-Gates 2:763-68, which shows that he had only one known child,
Jonathan, who married (1) Rebecca Bangs (2) Hannah (Prence) Mayo and (3)
Sarah (Lewis) Cobb, having six children by his first wife and three
children by his second wife. The Richard Sparrow house is one of the
oldest houses remaining in Plymouth today.
