Early New York Families Vol 1, pg 363:
"was one of the founders of the town of Southampton, Long Island, 1640,the first English town in the state of New York. He was a delegate to thegeneral court at Hartford, CT in 1664; joined in remonstrance 2-15-1670and was named 11-1-1676 in the patent of confirmation. He was also namedin Governor Dongan's patent 12-6-1686. He lived 5-4-1657, probably onHorse Mill Lane which ran from Main Street to the Town Pond." This sourcedoes not name Elizabeth Wheeler as the wife of Thomas. I will keep herlisted here until further research can be done.
Lineages of Hereditary Society Members, Seventeenth Century ColonialAncestors, page 113 names the following wives for Thomas Halsey:Elizabeth Wheeler, Mary Unknown and Phoebe Barrett.
Founders and Patriots of America, page 100 names the following wives forThomas Halsey: Phoebe Unknown and Ann Johnes.

"Thomas Halsey Sr. bap. 3-10-1592 Flamstead, Hertfordshire, England,married (1) Elizabeth Wheeler ca 1625 Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England(daughter of John Wheeler and Elizabeth ?) Elizabeth born ca 1599Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England, died ca 1649 Southampton, Long Island,NY. Thomas Sr and Elizabeth immigrated to Lynn, MA 1638. Thomas Sr.married (2) Mrs. Ann Johns 7-25-1660 Southampton, Long Island, NY. died8-27-1678 Southampton, Long Island, NY"
It has been suggested that Elizabeth and Phebe are the same person, herproper name being Elizabeth but being called Phebe. It is furthersuggested that the surname of Barrett belongs to Mary, not Phebe AND thatMary Barrett is the wife of Thomas Jr. not Thomas Sr. For now, I willfollow these suggestions.
Thomas Halsey & His Descendants in America:
"Thomas in 1621 was living in Naples, Italy...How long Thomas Halseyremained in Italy we do not know"
"Thomas came to Lynn, MA as early as 1637. He may have reached Bostonbefore 1633...our ancestor Thomas Halsey remained a citizen of Lynn, MAduring this stirring epoch. It is possible that the migration to LongIsland in 1640, of which he formed a part, was connected with thesereligious matters."
