ZACHARIAH SYMMES was the son of Rev. William Symmes and grandson of
William Symmes. He was a graduate of Emanuel College, University of
Cambridge, England; was a suffer by persecutions of Ecclesiastical Courts
of England and forced to flee his country. He came in the "Griffin,"
1634, and became pastor of the Church at Charlestown. He was an
informant against Mrs. Hutchinson, "on what he heard her say during the
passage;" was an opponent of the "Quaker heresy," and was an active
prosecutor of Anabaptists.
