[93230] Joseph first appears in the tax list of Huntingdon Co, PA, in 1820, as a single freeman. We know him to be married in 1812, so this listing would be in error. In 1822, he is listed not as a single freeman but as having "one occupation." In 1822, he is
taxed on 1 cow. In 1825, he has his father's 60 acres, possibly inherited.

In the 1830 Census he is in Half Moon Twp, Center Co, PA which is located right next to Warrior's Mark Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA.

1 male 5-10, Samuel;

1 male 15-20, John;

1 Male 30-40, Joseph;

1 female 5-10, Martha;

1 female 10-15, Margaret, Harriet or Nancy (none of them old enough to marry)

1 female 30-40, Elizabeth Leaney

In 1832, he has one cow and an occupation. In 1833, his is listed as "removed." In 1838-40, he has one horse, one cow and an occupation.

In the 1840 Census he is listed in Warriors Mark Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA, but he is not present for the census. The count was 5 then crossed out to 4. His household consists of:

1 male 15-20, Samuel;

2 females 15-20, Martha & probably Nancy (Harriet is married);

1 female 40-50, Elizabeth Leaney

In 1841, his name is crossed off. This is the year Blair County was formed from Huntingdon, and he probably appears on that list without having moved. He is on the 1846 tax list in Snyder Township, Blair County, PA with one occupation, 1 cow and 2
horses.

In the 1850 Census of Blair Co, PA, he is listed as age 58, laborer, born PA, with real estate valued at $600.00. Daughter Martha, age 29, is living with him.

In the 1860 U.S. Census of Blair County, PA, he lists his occupation as "Lumberman." He is 68, born in PA, has real estate valued at $2000.00 and personal property valued at $150.00.

In 1870, he lists his occupation as "laborer." No real estate is listed but his personal property is valued at $300.00.

In the 1880 census, his occupation in "Sawyer." He is 87 and "infirm" and lists both of his parents as born in Wales. His father was not born in Wales and he probably meant that they were of Welsh descent. He died in December of that year.

In a letter dated 9 March 1881, Harry Cassady writes to his uncle, Andrew Boger, "I have a sled that my great grandfather made me last summer and now he is dead and I haft to keep it now when he is dead and gone to Remember him. it seems very lonesum
now." The great grandfather he is referring to is surely Joseph Lewis because he died in December preceding the writing of this letter. Harry Cassady's son, Robert, had never heard of the sled when he was questioned in 1994. Harry Cassady also made
mention of a saw mill in his 1881 letter. Joseph Lewis was a Sawyer. "The saw mill is not running now the dam busted about five years ago and now the wheels and the iron is all sole [possibly sold?] and now it is rotting down."

Ellen Boger Cassady, in a letter to her brother Andrew Boger dated 30 December 1912, writes about their grandfather Joseph Lewis's home. "Grandfather's house is still standing in pretty good shape yet though it has been fixed in a good many places
since you left. long years before grandfather died he got it weatherboarded & took the chimney out and he built a kitchen to the end of the house & pailed the yard [possibly she meant paled which refers to stakes used to make fences] & after Aunt
Martha died, Mr. George Lewis bought the house and lot & has been living there ever since. Mr. Lewis is Mother's full cousin he came from Indiana County when a young man and married a girl in this valley & after Aunt Martha's death he bought the house.
he has made a few changes about the house. he has put two roofs on the house since he been living in it he put a steel roof on last summer. part of the old Stable is still standing & is in use. Mr. Lewis works at what ever he can get to do. he has a
wife and two sons one son is married." Aunt Martha Lewis died June 1884, and the land was transferred by George D. & Allie Blair to George Lewis in 1891. It sold again in 1921 to Calvin Sharer from George Lewis & wife Annie V. The survey in 1888 shows
Sanford Stonebraker on one side and Henry K. Nearhoof family on another side.
