[93204] from a letter from dawne:
Merle Jr. was a rancher, then went to Alaska and worked for Fish and Game dept. He kept all equipment running at King Salmon, This is the largest area for King salmon in the world as I understand. Dad was a self taught person , he knew every in of a
motor and could fix the many boats and auto and trucks and also the field camps that had to be maintaned for the U>S> GOv. Many congressman came to King Salmon to try their luck , Mother intertain them with her home cooked meals and shared many
evenings with different Reps. of Alaska. My dad was 6 feet tall. He was a very good person. And very wise, Dad never said a bad word about anyone, I can always remember that as a child.
back in washington, he and the family built their own house

Merle married Ruby right out of high school. Merle and Grover graduated from the first welding class out of Perry Trade school. He moved whith his wife and infant daughter to Juneau where he worked in the AJ Gold Mine with Grover. When the Aleutian
War broke out, Merle and Johnny Trundel were the only men in Juneau with military training and they helped form the Alaska Territorial Guard under Governor Ernest Gruening. Later Merle was transferred to Ft. Lewis Ordinance depot where he repaired
engines that were sent back to the front of WWII. After he returned to Yakima, farmed from the ranch nome on Douglas Rd. and joined Boeing Co. where he worked on the test project of the first commercial 747 jet. When the project completed in 1970 he
went to Anchorage to work for the Alaska State Fish&Game Dept. He retired in 1979 and moved back to Yakima. He had 13 great grandchildren when he died.
