Susan was familiarly called "Ma Sue", and by all accounts, was a free spirit long before it was a really acceptable characteristic.After Prior's death in 1928, Ma Sue re-married twice, first to Joe Pittman ofMorrisville, MO. One of the family stories concerned him and her fondness forbillowing flannel nightgowns. It seems he came home one day to a clotheslinefull of them and injudiciously remarked that he did not know the circus was intown. That marriage lasted a remarkably short time.
Her next excursion into the field of matrimony was with a William Brown, who lived near Bolivar. He died only two weeks before Susan, who lived with Roy and Treacy during her last illness. She was not easy to get along with when she enjoyed good health, so those last months must have been very hard on the family.
