EDWARD HOWELL FAMILY ASSOCIATION:
David is proved to be the son of Richard, Sr. by the following entry inBook A, p. 138, of the S.H. Town Records: "July 15, 1680, Richard Howellacknowledges that about the time of his son's marriage, he gave him 13acres of land lying between the house and land of Richard Norris on theeast side." 8
Very little is known about David Howell. On April. 7, 1675, he was awitness to a whaling agreement between his father and the Indians, andthe Town Records contain the following entry: "Died May 2, 1685, DavidHowell." 8
The name of his wife is not positively known, but is supposed to be MaryHerrick; the following is her supposed 2nd marriage : "Married December.20, 1686, John Larrison (Lamason) and a widow, Mary Howell." JohnLarrison was taxed in 1683 but not in 1684, apparently not living atSouthampton. The unrecorded will of James Herrick of S.H. dated August.12, 1685, and proved March. 16, 1686, mentions his wife, Martha Topping,and daughter, Mary Howell. 8
The only child known from contemporary records is their son David. Aconsideration of the available evidence indicates that David and Marywere also the parents of Daniel Howell. In 1675, David witnessed awhaling agreement. He was assessed at 77 pounds in the 1683 estmate. On14 November 1683 David Howell and John Laughton witnessed James Herrick'sgift of land to the latter's son, William Herrick. The inventory ofDavid's estate was made two days following his death by Edward Howell,John Howell, Jr., and Obadiah Rogers with a value of 83 pounds and 2shillings. His father, Richard Howell, Sr., provided for David's family:
"Richard Howell acknowledges that formerly about the time of the marriageof his son David Howell, he gave him 13 acres of land, lying between thehouse and land of Thomas Jessup at the west, and the land of RobertNorris at the east side on 15 July 1680. Richard Howell gave to hisgrandson David Howell all that parcel of land lying at Weeckapauge whichwas in the possession of my son David Howell in his life time and onwhich his dwelling house now standeth, being 13 acres. He is to have thesame when he is 20 years of age, and his mother the widow Mary Howell isto improve the same in the mean time." 66
David Howell was residing with his uncle Josiah at the time of the 1698census. 66

A family meeting convened on 13 June 1822 and was attended by Thomas Watts grandfather to the minors; James Watts; Silas Watts; and Elizabeth Watts; uncles and aunts.
13 June 1822: Bagwell Bailey and Frcderick Lowe posted a bond for $868 so that Bailey could become tutor to William, Elizabeth, Sarah, Louise, and James Barker, minor children of Briton and Cealia his wife, both deceased Wits: John M. Fenner and James Nethcrlin [NOTE: Sarah Barker md Isham G. Webb and migrated to Texas]
