[2349] Third Lieutenant William H. Harmon, killed on the first day of Battle atGettysburg.
probably on the Chambersburg Pike. (prob. abt June 30, 1863)

Notes:
Marvin D. Jones SFA #386, 5086 Rockyford, Arlington, Tn. 38002-9743
Marvin sent an interesting letter concerning the Harmon's. I'll quotefollowing selected passages: " Early in my research I was in the publiclibrary where I found a Georgia will book that listed a Wesley Harmon, the son of Jacob Harmon of S.C..
Wesley Harmon was my great great grandfather. I already hd the will ofJames Harmon of Newberry, S.C. who had a son Wesley Harmon. I spent ayear looking for other information on the George Wesley, and could findnothing. I finally got a copy of Jacob's will from Newton Co., Ga. andguess what? There was no such person on the will.
The lady who wrote the book put two extra commas in the list of children.Instead of Wesley, it was Jacob Wesley. Another son, John Fletcher wasmade into two people.....I have found some information that contradictslong standing relationships, and will possibly have an impact on ourSnipes line. In my research of John L. and Mary (Langford) Harmon'schildren, I discovered there were two William Harmon's alive at the timeof John L.'s death. The livingston Family in their book " Let's Meet the
Livingston's" (which has been in print for many years) claims theirWilliam Harmon, who died in 1808 was the son of John. The other one wasthe Rev. William Harmon who died in 1843. Many of the Livingston's movedto Winston Co., Ms.. I wrote two letters to the Winston Co. Gen. &History Society asking for proof of parents of William who died in 1808and recieved no answer. In 1980 they had published a book "Winston Countyand its people" with the same information init, so you can see this isquite wide spread. Last fall I found a court document that would provewhich William was the son of John L. and Mary (Lankford) Harmon.
It was copied by the S.C. dept of Archives & History in Columbia S.C. andmailed to me. I am sending you a copy of the first page. The children whoreceived nothing from the estate of John L. are suing the ones whoreceived land for their share of the estate. Note that William Harmon isalive and well in 1817! This lawsuit is 51 pages of 11x17. There is a 10page deposition signed by William Harmon on the 13th April 1816 for thislawsuit. The case was tried in Laurens Co., S.C..
Now to the impact on the Snipes Kin. Any Snipes who married a descendantof William Harmon or his wife could be affected. It depends on whichWilliam Harmon they picked for an ancestor. Without doing a lot ofresearch, three families come to mind.
I'm sure there are more.
1. William Harmon was the great great uncle of James Lee Smith.. J. L.Smith married Cora Belle Snipes.
2. William Harmon was the great uncle of Nancy Caroline Harmon. Shemarried Elbert Snipes.
3. William Harmon was the great uncle of William M. Harmon. W. H. Harmonmarried Fannie Tarecia Snipes.
In April of this year, I received information that the brother of JohnL., John Jacob Harmon, had a son William. John Jacob dropped his firstname and used Jacob. He was one of the executors of his brothers will, and is listed as Jacob. All of the defendants in the lawsuit refer to himas their Uncle Jacob. I have not had time to research this William, butthe time frame is right for him to be the William who died
in 1808.
