Date: 4 May 1844

This Indenture made the 4th day of May One thousand eight hundred and forty four between Andrew Howell of the County of Grayson and State of Virginia of the one part and Calvin Howell of the County and State abovesaid Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred Dollars to have [?] in hand paid by the said Calvin the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged said Andrew is [?] fully satisfied and paid doth grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said Calvin Howell a certain tract or parcel of land containing fifty acres be the same more or less lying in Grayson County on the waters of New River and described as follows Beginning at a [Cross of ?] on the conditional line between William Young & said Howell in a line of the former survey and with the line of said survey N. 55 E to a red oak and then south side of the Grassy Knob S 31 E to a conditional line between Wiley G. Young and said Howell then to the head of the east fork of the mine branch, down said branch to the west fork of said branch, thence [?] up the west fork to the head thence to the beginning. Together with every right title privilege and endorsement [?] to the said land belonging, or in any wise appertaining and the said Andrew Howell doth ...himself his heirs executors administrators and assigns well and truly to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises to the said Calvin Howell and his heirs or assigns forever free and clear from all claims or overbearances [?] whatsoever. In Witness whereof the said Andrew Howell hath herewith set his hand and seal the day and year first above written signed sealed and delivered in presence of us,
